From October 2021 to February 2023 Dan served as General Counsel of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Previously, from 2018 to 2021, he served as a Commissioner of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Prior to his appointment to the CFTC, Dan was a partner and co-chair of the futures and derivatives practice at the law firm of WilmerHale. He also was an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University Law School, and vice-chair of the American Bar Association Committee on Futures and Derivatives. Dan served as General Counsel of the CFTC from 2009-2013. Before the CFTC, Dan was a senior staff lawyer for the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. Dan obtained an A.B. in Physics from Princeton University and a J.D. from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco. He is married to Michelle and they have two children, Zoe and Eli.
